The agent for wide receiver Steve Breaston plans to talk with the Steelers at the Indianapolis scouting combine this week.
Eric Metz told me today he has been talking to four or five teams and that there is mutual interest between Breaston, a Pittsburgh native, and the Steelers, who are about to lose Mike Wallace to free agency.
Breaston was cut by the Kansas City Chiefs Tuesday after he played little last season after reportedly getting into then-coach Romeo Crenel’s doghouse. He was due to earn a salary of $3.8 million. He he caught just seven passes for 74 yards last season.
The Chiefs had signed him to a five-year, $23 million contract in 2011 when Todd Haley was their head coach. Haley also coached Breaston in Arizona.
The Steelers can use more receivers with Wallace headed out and, provided Breaston, 29, would not command a large contract, could be a good fit for them.
