The Steelers are considering LSU assistant Thomas McGaughey as a replacement for departed special teams coach Amos Jones.

McGaughey, 39, has been the special teams coordinator at LSU for the past two seasons. Prior to that, he was a special teams assistant coach with the New York Giants from 2007-2010.

The Steelers have also received permission to interview Washington Redskins special teams coordinator Danny Smith, a Pittsburgh native and Central Catholic High School graduate.

Jones left to become special teams coordinator with the Arizona Cardinals, where former Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians is the new head coach.
