During my weekly pregame appearances on KDKA-TV’s pregame show and 93.7 The Fan radio, I was asked why the Steelers would play Ben Roethlisberger today.
Simple: He wants to play and they want to win. Should you not play him because you fear injury that might affect the 2013 season? You cannot play that way. How could you rest Roethlisberger while you play, say, Troy Polamalu, Maurkice Pouncey and James Harrison? What message would that send.
You play those players who are healthy, at least not borderline, try to win and be done with it.
Toward that end, I’m taking the Steelers today. Let’s say 34-3. Then everyone will ask where that’s been all season. Well, it wasn’t. As I wrote today, injuries devastated this team’s season that I picked to end with an 11-5 record. Today, the injuries are working the other way with the Browns throwing out their practice squad quarterback and Trent Richardson not playing.

It’s a good time for Harrison and LaMarr Woodley to pad their sack stats.
