21-3K CLEMENTE'S 3,000 HITS EXPOS CLIP PIRATES 3-2
CLEMENTE 0-4
Wednesday, May 31th, 1972

MONTREAL - Tim Foli's RBI single in the 6th broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Expos a 3-2 win over the Pirates.

Roberto Clemente was 0-4 and is still 71 hits away from 3,000.
The Buccos scored 2nd when Nelson Briles drove in Richie Hebner, who led off the inning with a walk. The Expos quickly countered when Ron Fairly led off the bottom of the inning with a HR. Willie Stargell fired back with a 2 out HR, his 10th HR and 31st RBI of the year. However, the Expos got back to back hits from Ron Hunt and Boots Day. Hunt made it to 3rd on Richie Hebner's error and scored an unearned run on Bob Bailey's sac fly to tie the game at 2-2. The score stayed tied until Foli drove in Ken Singleton in the 6th.
Ernie McAnally (1-5) won his 1st game of the year. Briles (3-2) was the loser. The Bucs are still in 2nd place, now 4 GB the Mets, who were idle.

The Bucs head for a 10 game trip to the West Coast beginning Friday in San Francisco. Juan Marichal (1-8) vs Bob Johnson (0-2).

In memory of Mr. Les Banos.
