PH CLEMENTE INTENTIONALLY WALKED
PHILADELPHIA - Roberto Clemente was given the night off, save for a pinch hit role in the top of the ninth. He was intentionally walked by Chris Short.
Clemente's replacement in right field, Vic Davalillo, broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the 10th to give the Pirates a 3-2 victory over the Phillies. Ramon Hernandez, the Bucs fourth pitcher of the night, retired the side in the bottom of the 10th.
The Phils took a 2-0 lead on solo homers by Tim McCarver and Don Money. The Pirates got a run back in the 3rd. Steve Blass led off with a double and was driven in by Al Oliver. The Pirates then tied it up in the 9th when Gene Alley doubled home Manny Sanguillen. Clemente pinch hit for Bob Miller and was intentionally walked by Short to face Dave Cash. Cash flied out to left to end the inning.
Clemente still has 113 hits remaining to get to 3,000 hits. Tomorrow night, Bob Moose vs former Pirate Woodie Fryman.
