New York Islanders winger Colin McDonald faces a disciplinary hearing with the NHL this morning for his hit Tuesday night on Penguins defenseman Ben Lovejoy.
McDonald got major boarding and game misconduct penalties after smashing Lovejoy into the boards from behind. Lovejoy seemed momentarily stunned as he stayed on the ice, but he remained in the game.
McDonald spent 2011-12 with the Penguins organization, mostly in the American Hockey League. He appeared in five NHL games that season.
