Penguins general manager Ray Shero spoke with reporters the Penguins held their first post-lockout practice at Southpointe. Here are the highlights:

With a glut of defensemen, Shero said he will let that situation sort itself out this week at training camp.

Shero said center Evgeni Malkin has made it to Pittsburgh from Russia, but he is excused from practice today. He's not concerned that Malkin will be spent before the end of the regular season and doesn't foresee giving him a game off here and there. If he plays all 48 games in the NHL, he will have logged 85 by the end of the regular season.

Shero said the annual testing this morning went well, and there are no injuries that he knows of.

There doesn't seem to be anything in the new collective bargaining agreement that Shero finds troublesome.
