The Penguins, who originally had planned to conduct their first workout of training camp Monday at Consol Energy Center, will instead hold one today at 3:10 p.m. at Southpointe.

Players will, as previously scheduled, undergo physical at Consol Energy Center this morning, but what had been planned as a voluntary  workout in the afternoon will now be a formal practice.

The Penguins did not make their change of plans known until late Saturday night, but a number of other clubs made it known that they would hold practices today once the league and NHL Players' Association reached an agreement a few days ago to make that possible.

Given the way their regular season starts -- with visits to Philadelphia and the New York Rangers next weekend -- the Penguins can't be blamed for wanting to get in as much work as possible.
