-Talks between the NHL and NHLPA went on late into the night.

-Tanner Glass (right) and a few other NHLers have left Banska Bystrica of the Slovak Extraliga.

-In the midst of a nasty 1-7-3 slump, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins had a rough practice yesterday.

-Hurricanes forward Tuomo Ruutu will be sideline until at least April following hip surgery.

-"They probably thought we were going to cave in and they would get everything. Now they're like, 'Maybe we can get what we can get and move on.' " - Lightning forward Ryan Malone on negotiations between the NHL and NHLPA.

-Sharks defenseman Jason Demers (right) will be sidelined four to six weeks after suffering a broken wrist while playing for Canada in the Spengler Cup.

-In a quarterfinal round game, Ducks goaltending prospect John Gibson, a native of Whitehall, made 31 saves for the United States in a 7-0 shutout of the Czech Republic at the World Junior Championships. East Palestine, Ohio native J.T. Miller had a goal and two assists while Capitals forward prospect Riley Barber (Washington, Pa.) scored two goals. Panther forward prospect Vince Trocheck (Upper St. Clair) had one shot and was plus-1.

-Penguins defensive prospect Olli Maatta had two shots and was even today for Finland in an 8-0 rout of Germany in another relegation round game at the World Junior Championships in Ufa, Russia.

-Lightning goaltending prospect Andrei Vasilevski made 41 saves for Russia which defeated Switzerland in a shootout, 4-3 in a quarterfinal round.

-NBC Sports Network's ratings have tanked badly due to the absence of NHL games.
