John Hynes became the winningest coach in the history of the Penguins' American Hockey League affiliate in Wilkes-Barre Saturday night.
He is to be forgiven for wondering if it ever was going to happen.
The Baby Penguins' 3-2 victory at Syracuse was Hynes' 116th behind their bench, breaking a tie with Glenn Patrick atop the franchise's all-time list.
More important, it was Wilkes-Barre's first victory in seven games, snapping a 0-4-1-1 skid.
Probably not coincidentally, the Baby Penguins opened the scoring with a power-play goal, snapping a slump of 27 consecutive failed attempts with the man-advantage.
Hynes, in his third season as coach in Wilkes-Barre, has a overall record of 116-57-3-7 there.
