A couple of players who had been out of town for a bit returned to Pittsburgh and to practice at Southpointe today. That swelled the group to eight skaters plus goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury.
The skaters were defensemen Matt Niskanen and Ben Lovejoy, and forwards Pascal Dupuis, Chris Kunitz, Matt Cooke, Joe Vitale, Tyler Kennedy and Sidney Crosby. Vitale also had taken a break from the Southpointe gang for a while.
Union rep and forward Craig Adams was not at the practice, but he confirmed by text that he simply had a conflict and has not returned to New York for the ongoing collective bargaining talks.
The players had spent most of the session in one end or using three-quarters of the ice surface. There was a bad patch at the top of one slot. It was set off by three cones, but it made drills in that end difficult.
Beyond that, it was a standard workout of drills followed by a two-on-two scrimmage.
