NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly confirmed by email this evening what we told you earlier we heard, that recent talks between him and NHLPA special counsel Steve Fehr had gone beyond the cursory or a courtesy.
Daly wrote that "Steve and I had a substantive call [Tuesday]. Don't yet know what, if anything, will come of it."
It is believed that the union is seeking a way to resume formal negotiations.
We were not able to reach Fehr.
Again, this is not something we would categorize as a breakthrough in terms of the collective bargaining agreement and the lockout, but at least it's something.
