Still no official word on the Francisco Liriano signing. But I wouldn't read too much into the lack of an official announcement. This is a tough time of year to get people together - especially from different parts of the world and with inclement weather.

But once the deal is done, the Pirates will likely add another piece. Maybe not a big one, but another. By trading Joel Hanrahan, the Pirates "saved" about $7 million (yes, I know most of that went to Francisco Liriano). Whether that new piece is via free agency or trade is TBD.

That said, the Pirates have likely made their biggest moves of the offseason. By signing Russell Martin and Francisco Liriano and trading Joel Hanrahan, it has been an active several months for the Pirates.

Friday was pretty quiet across the league. I anticipate things will stay that way through New Year's.
