Hope everybody has a Happy Thanksgiving today. I wanted to include this brief I wrote for today's paper.
The Pirates announced Wednesday the signing of six players to minor league deals for the 2013 season, three of whom will be a part of the team’s major league spring training.
Outfielder Felix Pie and right-handed pitchers Brooks Brown and Erik Cordier have signed minor league deals with the Pirates, which include non-roster invitations to spring training. The Pirates also signed infielder Alex Valdez and right-handed pitchers David Bromberg and Luis Sanz to minor league contracts.
Pie, 27, was once a top prospect in the Chicago Cubs organization, but he never blossomed at the major league level and has not played there since hitting .220 with the Baltimore Orioles in 2011. He finished last season playing for the Class AAA team of the Atlanta Braves.
Brown, 27, spent all of the 2012 season pitching for the Detroit Tigers’ Class AAA affiliate. He has a 4.23 ERA in seven minor league seasons and has not played in the major leagues.
Cordier, 26, also does not have major league experience, though he was a second round draft pick of the Kansas City Royals in 2004. He has a career 4.27 ERA in seven minor league seasons, his most recent spent with the Braves’ Class AAA affiliate.

I wanted to take an informal poll today. What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish? What is your favorite Thanksgiving dessert?
For me, the food is stuffing (also known as dressing, in some circles) and the dessert is apple pie (Though I usually sneak a slice of pumpkin, too).
Have a safe and happy holiday.
