PITTSBURGH - Roberto Clemente was 1-4 with a single. However, Solo home runs by Orlando Cepeda and Ralph Garr got the ball rolling for the Braves. A 4 run Atlanta 5th inning sealed the 6-1 loss for the Pirates, their 5th in a row.
Roberto Clemente was 1-4 with a single. Clemente now needs 106 hits to get to 3,000.
Phil Niekro (2-2) pitched a complete game. The only blemish was Richie Hebner's lead off home in the bottom of the 9th. Bob Johnson (0-1) took the loss.
Monday, the Pirates host the Houston Astros for the first of a 3 game series. Dave Roberts vs Steve Blass.
The Pirates are tied with the Cards for 3rd place in the NL East, 4 games behind Montreal.
