-Erik Bedard (above) sets a team record with seven consecutive strikeouts and leads the Pirates to a 6-3 win against the Cardinals.

-Yankees closer Mariano Rivera will miss the remainder of the season due to a torn ACL.
-Nationals first baseman and former Pirate Adam LaRoche is dealing with an oblique injury.
Steelers/NFL
-Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs suffered a partially torn Achilles tendon injury while playing basketball.
-An autopsy confirmed former Chargers/Dolphins/Patriots linebacker Junior Seau committed suicide.
Penguins/NHL
-An overtime goal and an assist by former Penguin Alexei Ponikarovsky led the Devils to a 4-3 win against the Flyers in Game 3. Martin Brodeur made 25 saves in the victory which gave the Devils a 2-1 series lead.

-After losing Game 3 in three overtimes, Capitals defenseman Karl Alzner was greeted at home by this:

-Alzner showed a good sense of humor and tweeted the image with the following comment:

-“I didn’t have time to celebrate. Everybody jumped on me. It felt good in the pile.” - Ponikarovsky.
-A goal and two assists by Drew Doughty led the Kings to a 4-2 win against the Blues in Game 3. Jonathan Quick made 18 saves in the victory which gave the Kings a 3-0 series lead.
-Coyotes forward Raffi Torres will appeal the length of his 25-game suspension he received for hitting Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa (right) in the head during the first round.
-“I'm feeling better and slowly going for walks. That's a good thing. Training camp is still far away and we'll see what's going to happen. I've been in contact with the organization, Dr. (Michael) Terry and my trainers. So far, (it's) small steps. I believe I'll be ready.” - Hossa on his recovery from a concusson suffered as a result of Torres' hit.
-Could former Penguins assistant coach Troy Ward be the Flames' next head coach?
-The preliminary round of the IIHF World Championships begins today.
-A North American Hockey League junior team will relocate from Mat-Su, Alaska to Johnstown. The league is a junior A league, considered a step down from the United States Hockey League.
