-Welcome Beau Bennett ... to the lineup?

-The NHL will not discipine Matt Cooke (right) for his hit which injured Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson.

-“Erik was upset, he thought he got directed. He got cut with a skate that shouldn’t be where it was, it was a nothing play at the time, it should have been blown down because the puck went into the net(ting). There’s lots of things that could have happened that didn’t happen.” - Senators general manager Bryan Murray on the play.

-Peter Delmas made 34 saves for the Wheeling Nailers in a 3-1 loss to the Greenville Road Warriors.

College Basketball

-The Jamie Dixon/Ben Howland style of basketball isn't universally beloved.

-Derrick Colter scored 17 points for Duquesne which defeated Temple, 84-83.

-Russell Johnson had 16 points for Robert Morris in a 63-61 loss to Quinnipiac.

-Gary Bell, Jr. had 20 points for No. 5 Gonzaga in a 77-60 win against Saint Mary's.

-Spencer Dinwiddie scored 21 points for Colorado whch upset No. 9 Arizona, 71-58.

-Russ Smith scored 21 points for No. 12 Louisville which beat Saint John's, 72-58.

Deshaun Thomas had 22 points for No. 13 Ohio State in a 69-59 win against Northwestern.

-Andre Hollins scored 21 points for Minnesota which upset No. 20 Wisconsin, 58-53, in overtime.

Pirates/MLB

-Welcome Jason Grilli to the closer role.

-Jeff Locke and Kyle McPherson are still in the mix to make the roster.

-Athletics pitcher Grant Balfour will be sidelined four to six weeks following knee surgery.

Steelers/NFL

-The Steelers hired long-time NFL assistant Richard Mann as wide receivers coach.

-What do the Steelers do with James Harrison's contract.

-The Eagles signed former Steelers quarterback Dennis Dixon. he re-joins his former college coach at Oregon, Chip Kelly.

-The Bills released cornerback Terrance McGee.

-The Vikings signed coach Leslie Frazier to a contract extension through 2014.

College Football

-Penn State hired former Georgia State defensive coordinator Anthony Midget as defensive back coach.

-West Virginia offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh leaves for the same position with Oklahoma.

Etc.

-Olympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius was arrested and charged with of murdering his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.
