-The Penguins are taking too many penalties

-The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins signed former Penguins defenseman Mark Eaton and forward Tom Kostopoulos to professional tryout contracts.

-Flyers forward Scott Hartnell will be sidelined indefinitely due to a foot injury.

-The Sharks signed unrestricted free agent forward Scott Gomez, formerly of the Canadiens, to a one-year contract worth $700,000 (prorated).

College Basketball

-Jerry Jones had 18 points for Duquesne which lost to Saint Louis, 73-64.

-Eron Harris scored 19 points for West Virginia in a 71-50 win against TCU.

-D.J. Newbill had 18 points for Penn State in a 72-49 loss to No. 7 Indiana.

-No. 8 Florida got 17 points from Scottie Wilbekin in a 64-47 defeat of Georgia.

-Tyreek Duren had 16 points for LaSalle which beat No. 9 Butler, 54-53.

-Jared Swopshire had 16 points for Northwestern which upset No. 12 Minnesota, 55-48.

-Tony Snell had 23 points for No. 15 New Mexico in a 66-61 win against Colorado State.

-E.J. Singler scored 19 points and led No. 16 Oregon to a 68-61 defeat of Washington State.

Richard Carter had 20 points for No. 17 Creighton in a 74-69 win against Drake.

-Cleanthony Early had 17 points for No. 20 Wichita State which defeated Missouri State, 62-52.

-Charlie Batch is a finalist for the Byron "Whizzer" White Award.

-The family of former all-pro linebacker Junior Seau sued the NFL for wrongful death.
