Steelers/NFL

-Ben Roethlisberger (right) and Todd Haley are BFFs.

-According to ESPNDallas.com, Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware was fined $15,750 for a hit against Roethlisberger Sunday.

-Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall denied he threatened to kill an official during an October game against the Steelers.

-Colts coach Chuck Pagano has been given medical clearance to resume coaching. He has been recovering from leukemia treatments since September.

-The Bills placed cornerback Leodis McKelvin (groin) on injured reserve and re-signed linebacker Kirk Morrison.

-The Seahawks placed defensive tackle Jason Jones (knee) on injured reserve.

Penguins/NHL

-NHLPA members are expected to give the group's executive board permission to file a disclaimer of interest today.

-The NHL officially canceled games through Jan. 14. Penguins games which officially got the axe include:

Dec. 31 - vs. Capitals
Jan. 4 - vs. Panthers
Jan. 5 - at Devils
Jan. 8 - vs. Lightning
Jan. 11 - at Ducks
Jan. 12 - at Coyotes

-In their past five games, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have had 15 fights. In their previous 21 games, they had 15 fights.

-The Bridgeport (Conn.) Sound Tigers, the AHL affiliate of the Islanders, will wear the names of victims from last week's Newtown, Conn. mass shooting on the back of their jerseys for the next seven games. The jerseys will be auctioned off to benefit victims.

College Basketball

-Coron Williams and Karvel Anderson each had 17 points for Robert Morris in a 79-74 loss to Arkansas.

-Mason Plumlee scored 21 points for Duke which beat Elon, 76-54.

-No. 2 Michigan got 17 points from Tim Hardaway Jr. in a 93-54 rout of Eastern Michigan.

College Football

-Pitt added New Mexico to its non-conference scheduled for 2013.

-Kyle Van Noy scored two defensive touchdowns for BYU which defeated San Diego State in the Poinsettia Bowl, 23-6.

Pirates/MLB

-The Brewers signed former Pirates pitcher Tom Gorzelanny (right) to a two-year contract worth $6 million.

-The Cubs signed former Nationals pitcher Edwin Jackson to a four-year contract worth $52 million.

-The Marlins signed former Phillies third baseman Placido Polanco to a one-year contract.

-The Rangers signed former White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski to a one-year contract worth $7.5 million.
