Steelers/NFL

-The Steelers suspended Rashard Mendenhall (right) for one game after he failed to show up for Sunday's game against the Chargers.

-Mike Tomlin admits to his own mistakes.

-Willie Colon's knee injury will sideline him for at least two weeks.

-Ravens cornerback Asa Jackson was suspended four games for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

-The Colts re-signed former Steelers running back Mewelde Moore after placing running back Donald Brown (ankle) on injured reserve.

-The Jets bring back wide receiver Braylond Edwards after claiming him off waivers from the Seahawks.

-The Patriots placed wide receiver Donte Stallworth (anke) on injured reserve.

-The Bears placed former Penn State kicker Robbie Gould (calf) on injured reserve and signed former Panthers kicker Orlindo Mare.

-The Panthers placed safety Haruki Nakamura on injured reserve due to a groin injury.

-Former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue overturned all discipline for players involved in the Saints bountygate scandal.

Penguins/NHL

-The NHL and NHLPA will resume negotiations today along with the presence of a federal mediator.

-The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins signed former Mercyhurst goaltender Ryan Zapolski to a professional tryout contract.

-Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins defenseman Joe Morrow needs some work in the defensive zone.

-Dustin Jeffrey recorded an assist for Medvescak Zagreb in a 3-0 defeat of Fehervar AV19 in Austria's EBEL.

-Coyotes forward and former Penguin Nick Johnson has joined the Idaho Steelheads, the Stars' ECHL affiliate.

College Basketball

-Jerry Jones (right) scored 16 points for Duquesne which upset West Virginia, 60-56.

-Trey Burke had 19 points for No. 3 Michigan which routed Binghamton, 67-39.

-No. 10 Illinois got 14 points from Brandon Paul in a 64-54 win against Norfolk State.

-Rodney Williams Jr. scored 19 points for No. 13 Minnesota which beat North Dakota State, 70-57.

Pirates/MLB

-The Pirates help out the Children's Institute of Pittsburgh.

-In a three-team trade, the Reds acquired outfielders Shin-Soo Choo and Jason Donald, the Indians acquired pitchers Trevor Bauer, Bryan Shaw and Matt Albers and the Diamondbacks acquired shortstop Didi Gregorius, pitcher Tony Sipp and first baseman Lars Anderson.

-The Dodgers acquired infielder Skip Schumaker from the Cardinals in exchange for shortstop Jake Lemmerman.

-The Diamondbacks signed former Athletics pitcher Kevin McCarthy to a two-year deal worth $15.5 million.

-The Yankees signed former White Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis.
