Steelers/NFL

-The Steelers are still hanging on to the AFC's final postseason berth.

-The Steelers activated guard David DeCastro (right) from the injured reserve/designated to return list, re-signed offensive lineman John Malecki, placed offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert (ankle) on injured reserve and released wide receiver David Gilreath.

-The Jaguars signed rookie wide receiver Toney Clemons off the Steeers' practice squad.

-Cam Newton rushed for two touchdowns and rushed for two more scores to lead the Panthers to a 30-22 defeat of the Panthers.

-Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart left the game due to an anke injury.

-The Ravens activated wide receiver/kick returner David Reed (knee) from the physically unable to perform list.

-Patriots defensive end Jermaine Cunningham was suspended four games for violating the NFL's subantance abuse policy.

-The Titans fired offensive coordinator Chris Palmer.

-The NFL will not suspend Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh (right) for kicking Texans quarterback Matt Schaub in the crotch.

-49ers wide receiver Kyle Williams will miss the rest of the season due to a left knee injury.

-The Bears placed guard Lance Louis (knee) on injured reserve.

-The Cowboys placed inebacker Bruce Carter (elbow) on injured reserve.

-Buccaneers cornerback Eric Wright was suspended four games for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

-Cardinals center Lyle Sendlein will miss the rest of the season due to a left knee injury.

College Basketball

-Forward Talib Zanna has emerged this season.

-Pitt guard Trey Zeigler was suspended following driving under the influence charges.

-Lucky  Jones had 18 points for Robert Morris which lost to Savannah, 61-52.

-Jeff Withey scored 16 points for No. 10 Kansas which defeated San Jose, 70-57.

Penguins/NHL

-Sidney Crosby's (right) agent has begun talking to teams in Russia and Switzerland.

-The NHL and NHLPA will bring a federal mediator into negotiations.

-Mediation doesn't always guarantee a solution.

-One of the potential mediators was removed after several bizarre postings were discovered on his Twitter page.

-With 28 points in 18 games, Evgeni Malkin leads all locked-out NHLers in KHL scoring.

-"The whole thing is kind of so shady." - Lightning forward and former Penguin Ryan Malone on the NHL issuing a gag order on NHL owners during the lockout.

College Football

-Penn State tight end Kyle Carter, offensive guard John Urschel, center Matt Stankiewitch, wide receiver Allen Robinson, linebacker Michael Mauti and defensive tackle Jordan Hill were selected to the All-Big Ten's first team.

-Pitt freshman defensive back Steve Williams was dismissed from the team following assault charges.

-San Diego State will face BYU in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl, Dec. 20.

-SMU accepted an invitation to the Hawaii Bowl, Dec. 24.

Pirates/MLB

-Taking a look at Jeff Karstens' numbers for salary arbitration.

-The Rays signed third baseman Evan Longoria to a 10-year contract extension worth a total of $136.6 million.
