-Former Penguins defenseman Alexandre Picard has joined HC Lev Praha of Russia's KHL. A free agent signing last summer, Picard appeared in 17 games with the NHL Penguins last season and recorded four assists. In 43 games with the AHL Penguins, he scored 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists).
-Former Penguins prospect Angelo Esposito, the team's first-round pick in 2007, has joined Pelicans of Finland's SM-liiga.
-"We tried to add, in our minds, one of the best defensemen in the game to a good, young, up-and-coming team, and it didn't work. It was structured in a way we were hopeful they wouldn't match it. I learned at about 3:15 [on Tuesday] afternoon, and the initial reaction was disappointment, but I guess we move on." - Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren on attempting to add Predators defenseman Shea Weber to his team.
