-"You're only out if you believe you're out." - Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins coach Alain Nasreddine on his team trailing the St. John's SeaCaps, 3-1, in their Calder Cup Eastern Conference semifinal series. Game 5 is tonight.
-An overtime goal and an assist by Marc Staal gave the Rangers a dramatic 3-2 win against the Capitals in Game 5. Henrik Lundqvist made 16 saves for New York which took a 3-2 series lead. Troy Brouwer recorded two assists for Washington.-Flyers forward Claude Giroux was suspended one game by the NHL for hitting Devils forward Dainius Zubrus in the head during Game 4.
-The explanation:
-Mike Smith made 32 saves for the Coyotes in a series-clinching 2-1 win against the Predators in Game 5. Nashville won the series, 4-1. The Coyotes/Jets franchise advanced to a conference final for the first time.
-The Flyers and their parent company are being sued by season ticket holders over how tickets for the Winter Classic were handled.
-The Blackhawks promoted former Penguins defenseman Norm Maciver from director of player personnel to assistant general manager.
Steelers/NFL
-The Seahawks signed former West Virginia defensive end Bruce Irvin (right). He was their first-round pick last month.
-The Ravens signed former Steelers defensive lineman Ryan McBean.
-The Bills signed running back Fred Jackson to a contract extension through 2014.
-Raiders safety Tyvon Branch signed his franchise tender of $6.212 million.
-Longtime Patriots left tackle Matt Light officially retired.
-The Texans signed former Bengals kicker Shayne Graham.
-The Vikings cut longtime kicker Ryan Longwell.
