Lamar Patterson had some critical words for his teammates following Pitt’s 79-69 loss at Marquette today. The Golden Eagles came into the game the seventh-best rebounding team in the Big East.
Pitt was the best rebounding team, but one would have never known based on what transpired at the Bradley Center.
For the second time in as many meetings, Marquette got the better of the Panthers on the boards. The Golden Eagles won the rebounding battle, 33-24.
Patterson had an easy explanation as to why. He said Marquette was hungrier.
“They wanted it more today,” Patterson said. “Not much else we can say. When it feels like every ball was bouncing their way it’s because they wanted it more. They were going to get it. We were on our heels. When a loose ball was there we were a step behind. They were the more aggressive team and deserved to win.”
Marquette won the rebounding battle in the first game by five.
