Pitt coach Jamie Dixon usually doesn’t say much after a game when he is asked what he said to deserve a technical foul.
On Saturday afternoon, Dixon did not show as much restraint. In the second half of a 79-69 loss at Marquette, official Tim Clougherty whistled Dixon for a technical when the Panthers were trailing y 13 with 6:05 remaining.
“My first one in I don’t know how long,” Dixon said in the postgame news conference. “I congratulated him on that. No bad language. Pass that on to my mom.”
It was Dixon’s first technical of the season. He and Clougherty were butting heads throughout the game.
Not that the officiating played any part in the outcome.
The Panthers played perhaps their worst game of the season, allowing Marquette to shoot 56.5 percent and to outrebounded them by nine.
“Give Marquette credit,” Dixon said. “They made shots early. Our defense had something to do with it, but give them credit at the same time. They’re a good team. This was a good opportunity for us. We needed to get a win and didn’t.”
