Season record: 1-0
Prediction: Pitt 66, Rutgers 64
Pitt has not lost at the RAC since 2001, but even when Pitt fielded some of its best recent teams it was never easy for the Panthers to win there. The 2010-11 team that finished 15-3 and won the Big East regular-season championship won, 65-62. The 2008-09 team that also finished 15-3 and advanced to the Elite Eight won, 78-72.
This Pitt team is not nearly as good as those two, but the Panthers will find a way to win against the Scarlet Knights, who dropped their Big East opener by 25 to Syracuse Wednesday night.
Rutgers is a bad defensive team that allows opponents to shoot 41 percent. The Panthers have gone through some stretches where they have a hard time scoring, but they’ll get enough from their guards to pull this one out.
Look for Tray Woodall, who struggled against Cincinnati, to bounce back with a strong performance.
