Michigan is a talented team with a pair of very good guards in Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway, Jr. They are prolific scorers and have helped the Wolverines become one of the highest scoring teams in Division I early in the season.
But the Wolverines will be at a disadvantage in the frontcourt. At least they will be in terms of matching up with Pitt size-wise.
John Beilein’s tallest starter is 6-foot-8, 250-pound junior Jordan Morgan. The tallest player off the bench is 6-10 freshman Mitch McGary, but he only plays about 13 minutes a game.
If 7-foot freshman Steven Adams, 6-9 senior Dante Taylor and 6-9 junior Talib Zanna can get offensive rebounds and second-chance points the Panthers will be able to hang tough.
The Panthers once again appear to be a very strong offensive rebounding team. Through the first four games they are averaging almost 14 offensive rebounds per game.
Taylor had a couple of huge offensive rebounds and put-backs in the final 37 seconds of regulation Saturday night in Pitt’s comeback win over Oakland University.
Taylor and Zanna have showed much improvement finishing their second-chance opportunities this season. Adams can get offensive rebounds, but he has yet to display a consistent scoring touch around the hoop.
