Mike Young and Josh Newkirk signed their letters of intent, Pitt announced today. Now the question is whether the scholarship vacated by John Johnson will be filled during the spring signing period.
Jeff Borzello of CBS reported earlier today that Jamel Artis of Notre Dame Prep is expected to join Pitt. He has been a longtime target of the coaching staff, but has delayed a decision. Notre Dame Prep coach Ryan Hurd, who coached Steven Adams last season, said both sides are comfortable that he will sign during the spring signing period, according to Borzello.
Artis is originally from Baltimore and is a wing. One source this evening said the issue with Artis is getting him academically qualified. Young, a 6-8 power forward is originally from McKeesport. He is finishing up his career at St. Benedict’s in New Jersey. He is a consensus top 100 recruit.
Newkirk is a 6-1 point guard from Word of God Academy in Raleigh, N.C. He is also a consensus top 100 player.
