Pitt alums Sam Young and Aaron Gray played against each other when the Indiana Pacers and Toronto Raptors tipped off their NBA seasons Thursday night.

Young’s Pacers topped the Raptors, 90-88. Young, who signed with Indiana after playing last season with Memphis and Philadelphia, came off the bench and scored four points and added three rebounds. He was 2 for 2 from the field in his 11 minutes of action.

Gray came off the bench for Toronto and scored four points and had one rebound in his eight minutes. He also was 2 for 2 from the field.

It was not a good opening night for one other Pitt player of note. DeJuan Blair did not play in San Antonio’s 99-95 victory against New Orleans.

Blair, a starter for most of his first three seasons with the Spurs, did not earn many minutes during the preseason and was phased out of the rotation in last year’s playoffs after starting 62 of 64 games during the regular season.
