The rosters for the Pittsburgh Basketball Club Pro-Am are set, and top recruit Steven Adams will get an opportunity to play with some of Jamie Dixon's top playmakers during the summer.
Adams is on the same team as Lamar Patterson and Trey Zeigler as well as fellow freshman, point guard James Robinson.
Under NCAA rules, two incoming players can be paired with two players from the team. Other Pitt players on the same team include Dante Taylor and Durand Johnson, Talib Zanna, John Johnson and Chris Jones (the other incoming freshman) and Malcolm Gilbert and Cam Wright.
J.J. Moore and Tray Woodall are not playing as they recover from offseason surgeries.
The first game is Monday June 18 at 7 p.m. The complete schedule is expected to be available at pittsburghbasketballclub.com later in the week.
In the past, coaches have had input on what the teams look like. Having Adams play with Patterson and Zeigler is a no-brainer because all three will be in the starting lineup. Having Robinson on the same team makes sense, too, because he'll back up Woodall, and he could have a more meaningful role if Woodall suffers injuries again this season.
Robinson will miss the first week of games because he made the Team USA U18 team that will compete in the FIBA Americas championship in Brazil next week.
The rosters unveiled today did not have a team with Pitt alumni, but Chevy Troutman, Levance Fields and others have committed to playing in the league when they are in town.
