Woodall progressing well and other notes from practice

Pitt coach Jamie Dixon said today that junior point guard Tray Woodall did skill work with the team and is rehabilitation is progressing well. He said it is itme to start thinking about a date for his return, although he shied away from speculation that it could be in time for the Dec. 27 Big East opener at Notre Dame.

*Talib Zanna was limping after conducting interviews with reporters today, but he said he would be able to play tomorrow night against St. Francis. Dixon said a couple of others were banged up as well, but he did not give any indication that any of them would miss the game.

*Dixon said there is a strong possibility that Lamar Patterson will play some at power forward in the future. That could take place in a game when Dixon wants to play with a smaller lineup. Dixon only has four post players on scholarship now that Khem Birch left the team – Zanna, Dante Taylor, Nasir Robinson and Malcolm Gilbert.

Gilbert saw his first playing time of the season Saturday in the South Carolina State game.

Ray,

Don't you think JJ Moore would be a better fit at the 4? I think he's a better rebounder with more athletic ability for that position.

Tigerpaul, Jamie said Monday after practice that Lamar is the guy he will put at the four if he wants to play small. J.J. in that scenario would play the three. He said he wants to get J.J. more minutes because he thinks he's playing well. The other day vs. S.C. State, Patterson and Moore were on the court at the same time.
