How much do practices at Penn State compare to Bill O’Brien’s practices with the Patriots? The schedule will be pretty similar. After these first few days of practice, which are limited to one-a-day workouts per NCAA rules, O’Brien plans to have workouts like he had in New England.
Once this week has past, he plans to have one main practice and one walkthrough.
“After the CBA came out, there are not a ton of two‑a‑days in pro football anymore,” O’Brien said. “It's a hard practice and more of a lighter practice. So that is the model that we're following.”
As much as he keeps the schedule the same, he’s had to get used to not having the same personnel as he did with the Patriots.
“I would say the defense is a little ahead of the offense right now, but that is usually the case in training camp unless Tom Brady is your quarterback,” O’Brien said. “So we make strides every day offensively. I think there are flashes where we can be a very consistent offense, but we've got to continue to work the kinks out every single day.”
