JAMESH: So Gerry, do they let Pope go or move Paulson to the PS?
Gerry Dulac: JH, I think it's one of two things -- Paulson to the pravctice squad or releasing Saunders, the latter of which dooesn't make sense. It should be fairly easy to move Paulson to the practice squad because a team would have to put him on their 53-man roster if they claimed him off waivers. And chances of a team doing that are fairly slim.
Ger Bear: With Mendenhall likely back, do you think Batch or another RB will not dress this week?
Gerry Dulac: Without question. The team is already carrying six running backs and three tight ends, not counting Weslye Saunders. Last year, they carried four RBs and three TEs, but one of the TEs was David Johnson, who was their H-back/fullback., Not only do I think one of the running backs won't dress, I also think one of the running backs could be released. I believe the back who won't dress is Jonathan Dwyer.
Nashville Fan: Gerry, are you looking forward to the road trip to Nashville? Great Town! Did you know that Jim Varney lived outside of Nashville? Were you a fan?
Gerry Dulac: I am, because I agree -- Nashville is a cool town. Always enjoying visiting.
Lou Dog: Gerry, do you have a favorite author?
Gerry Dulac: Gene Collier
JAMESH: Ed implied this morning on his slog that Tomlin had some interest in Vick a few years back. Was Coach Tomlin's intent to challenge Ben or use Vick simply as a backup?
Gerry Dulac: He did have interest, but not as player to challenge Ben, merely supplement him. Give the Steelers that Wildcat dimension, which was really in vogue at the time.
Nashville Fan: Thanks, but what about Jim Varney? Were you a fan of the classic Ernest movies?
Gerry Dulac: I was not. Classic is a debatable word.
roger that: Mr. Dulac, lotta talk about Vick this week. Have you ever interviewed/met him?
Gerry Dulac: Roger, I do not believe I have ever interviewed Vick face to face. But I do not believe it has ever been on my bucket list of great sports journalism moments
T-bone: I live out of town. Can I get your radio show with Antonio Brown on the internet? Also, does hosting a show with him in any way hurt your ability to be objective when covering him and his team?
Gerry Dulac: Not at all. When he fumbled twice against the Raiders, it didn't prevent me from saying so or lowering the grade of the wide receivers in the post-game report card I do for the PG. If anything, it enhances my professional relationship with him and also allows me to glean more insight from him.
To answer the first part, you can listen on IHeart Radio or on the station's website, 970ESPN.com.
Clint B and H: Did Harrison practice yesterday? Was there practice yesterday?
Gerry Dulac: No practice yesterday -- players off day. But he is scheduled to practice today, which will be in a couple hours.
Reston: Gerry, can we realistically expect Troy and James to stay healthy the rest of the year? I have my doubts they can.
Gerry Dulac: That's like asking if we can expect hgas prices to stay where they are. I will invoke the universal answer that can apply to any question ever asked -- Time will tell.
MT: In your opinion, do you think James Harrison will ultimately end up on IR this season?
Gerry Dulac: I will say it is a possibllity, just as it is with any player who might suffer a serious injury. Now, if he didn't come back from this latest setback -- and right now it appears he might -- then I would have thought it was a greater possibility.
leon: Gerry, You take really long breaks during your chats. Do you go to get snacks or something?
Gerry Dulac: I'm getting coffee for Ed.
JAMESH: When can we expect to see more McLendon and less Hampton?
Gerry Dulac: Well, I'm not sure. I've checked with the coaches about Hampton and they have indicated to me that he has been fine. I'm sure if they thought he wasn't playing well, we would be seeing more of McLendon, especially after the way he played in the preseason.
JAMESH: How soon will you or Ed give us an update today on Harrison's knee?
Gerry Dulac: Today is not a key day for Harrison. Tomnorrow or Friday will be more telling, after he's had a chance to practice back-to-back days. Right now, everything is fine (relatively speaking) and on schedule for him to play. And he will start. But the coaches plan to rotate him with Chris Carter and Jason Worilds because they don't expect him to, nor do they want him to, play a full game.
Gerry Dulac: That's going to do it for today's chat, kids. Lots of good questions. Makes the 30 minutes go faster than Mike Vick. We'll probably have a different time for next week's chat, too, because of the Thursday night game in Nashville. Stay tuned.
