CLEMENTE'S 2 SINGLES LEADS PIRATES TO 5-2 WIN OVER CUBS
PITTSBURGH - Roberto Clemente singled twice and scored twice as the Pirates defeated Chicago.
With two more hits, Clemente needs 114 hits to reach the 3,000 mark.
Clemente singled in the first inning and scored when Don Kessinger misplayed Jose Pagan's grounder, tying the score at one apiece.
With the Cubs leading 2-1, Clemente led off the bottom of the eighth with a single and scored on Bob Robertson's first homer of the year, which put the Bucs out in front to stay.
Nellie Briles, pitching two innings in relief of starter Bob Johnson, got the win. Cubs starter Juan Pizarro got the loss.
The final game of this three game series is Thursday, April 20th. Dock Ellis will face Ferguson Jenkins, who was a 24 game winner in 1971. Then the Bucs will go across the state for a weekend series against the Phils.
