HOLD OFF PIRATES 7-6.
Sunday, May 14th, 1972

HOUSTON - The Astros knocked out Nellie Briles in the 2nd with a 4 run 2nd inning and held on to sneak by the Pirates 7-6.

Roberto Clemente pinch hit for Dave Guisti and led off the 9th with a single but was stranded. He is now 90 base hits away from 3,000. Clemente's average is .303.

RBI's by Al Oliver and Richie Hebner gave the Bucs a 2 run lead in the 1st. However, the Astros took the lead in the bottom of the 1st on a 3 run HR by Cesar Cedeno and a back to back solo shot by Bob Watson.

The Bucs fought back when Vic Davalillo and Al Oliver got back to back hits. Willie Stargell singled home Davalillo. Richie Hebner's sac fly drove in Oliver to make the score 7-4 Houston.

The Pirates came to within a run in the 8th when Stargell hit a 2 run shot, his 6th off of Don Wilson. Jim Ray got his 3rd save in 3 days when he held the Bucs scoreless in the 9th with 2 runners on.
Wilson (2-2) got the win. Briles (1-2) took the loss.
